World Press Photo Award 2010

Zum 53. Mal seit ihrem Bestehen hat die Jury im holländischen Amsterdam den World Press Photo Award, den wohl berühmtesten Fotopreis der Welt, verliehen. Zwölf Tage lang sichteten die Preisrichter unter Leitung des Vize-Fotochefs von Reuters, Ayperi Karabuda Ecer, tausende von eingereichten Bildern.

Mit dem ersten Platz in der wichtigsten Kategorie "Pressefoto des Jahres" setzte sich der Fotograf Pietro Masturzo aus Italien durch. Sein Bild zeigt Frauen, die in einer Nacht nach den umstrittenden Präsidentschaftswahlen im Juni 2009 auf einem Dach in Teheran stehen und Protestparolen rufen.

Reuters-Mann Ecer begründete die Entscheidung: "Das Foto zeigt den Anfang von etwas, den Anfang einer riesigen Geschichte. Es fügt Aussichten zu Nachrichten hinzu. Es berührt dich visuell und emotional."

Updated list of expected Nikon lenses in 2010

• Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 – already released, in stock almost everywhere.

• Nikkor 24mm f/1.4 – already released, will ship next month (March, 2010).

• Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 – many reports on that lens

• Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 – the last rumor suggested that this lens could be delayed till 2011.

• Nikkor 100-500mm f/4-5.6 – this should be the replacement of the current 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR (there is a low chance that the replacement could still be 40-400mm instead of 100-500mm).

• Nikkor 24-120 f/4 VR lens (there is a small chance that this lens may not be with a constant f/4 aperture).

• Nikkor AF-S 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens

• Nikkor 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6G ED VR (DX lens) – this will probably be the kit lens for the Nikon D90 replacement.

Note that this list is based on multiple tips, patents and just plain rumors I have accumulated during the past few months. I will be updating this list as we move along and I gather new information.

The bonus lens would be the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.2G.

Update: several readers asked me about the Nikon AF Micro 200mm f/4D IF-ED and Nikon AF DC 135mm f/2.0D lenses. I have no reliable information that those two lenses will be replaced besides the fact that they have been listed as discontinued (or not available) for a long time: see this post from June 9, 2009 and this one from July 10, 2009. I also do not recall seeing any patents for similar type of lenses.

Nikkor 24-120 f/4 VR will be released this year

Nikon will announce a new Nikkor 24-120 f/4 VR lens (FX of course) this year. The Google translation said “soon”, but I have no idea how soon that would be. I got this info from one of the forum members I regularly follow on various Asian sites (mainly China and Japan). This time I will not post a direct link to the forum thread in order to protect their identity.

I would like to remind you that the first report about the new AF-S 16-35mm f/4 VR lens came from one of those sources on a Japanese forum back in September 2009! This was not a coincidence – this lens was hard to guess or predict unless you had some insider information (he/she/it even knew it will be VR).

I have not received any other confirmations on this lens yet and that’s why I will rate this rumor @ 75% probability.

There is also a word on the street about a new Nikkor 28-300 f/3.5-5.6 lens and even a new full frame camera in a small(-er) body but I am not sure about the reliability of the source.
